Dr. Don VerHulst
Are you familiar with the story of the scientist determined to scale the Mountain of Truth? He acquired all the knowledge humanly possible and struggled through many hardships to reach the summit, only to find a theologian already sitting on the peak. The scientist had nearly killed himself to get there, but the theologian wasn't even out of breath.
I am familiar with that story because I am that scientist. Early on I decided I could give my life meaning and make other people's lives better by applying to medical school. I spent years studying and sacrificing, and in 1982 I earned my M.D. degree. I graduated as an atheist, without any spiritual hope. My mind was full of medical jargon and tradition, and I lived on caffeine, junk food, and adrenaline. I was a living contradiction in terms-a doctor who didn't take care of his health. Despite my sorry physical and spiritual state, though, I was sure I was on my way to reaching the pinnacle of my life. Then my car battery died one night and I met my theologian.
In the parking lot of an airport one cold, snowy night, the man who helped me charge my car battery asked me what I believed in. As we talked, I could see that he was sitting on the Truth I had been searching for all my life. He asked me one simple question: "Would you like to be forgiven for your sins?" I said one simple word in reply: "Yes!" Since that night, Jesus has been Lord and Healer and Teacher and everything else to me. |
As I began to study the Bible from a physician's perspective, the Lord began to show me the divine health principles in His Word-the best physiology textbook I have ever studied! It is accurate in every detail and is filled with promise after promise about our health and healing. I discovered that God has a marvelous health plan for each of us and that He gives us many amazing keys to good health right in the pages of His Word!
